Adding a Container
A container is a movable location that is added to a physical site-location (required).
- When you add a container, the associated site-location, name and container type are required. (Container types are added from the Manage Container Types page.) When a new container is added to the system, a New Container transaction is posted to the history log.
- Optionally, you may add an item or items and/or an asset or assets to the container, at the time you add it to the system. When you add an asset to the container at this time, an Asset Move To Container transaction is posted to the history log. When you add an item to the container at this time, a Move To Container transaction is posted to the history log.
- After a container is added to the system, you are able to add inventory to it, move it, and issue stock from it, pick stock from it, receive stock into it, or return stock to it.
How to Add a Container
To add a container, please refer to the instructions that follow.
- Select Manage > Containers from the navigation pane.
- The Manage Containers page appears.
- Select the Add icon in the bottom right area of the page. The page is placed into Add mode.
- The Select Container area of the page is deactivated.
- The Container Header portion of the page and the Add Asset/Item to Container portion of the page activate.
- The Save and Cancel icons found in the bottom right area of the page are activated.
- The basic container information is added in the Container Header portion of the page.
- Name (required): enter the container's name in this field.
- Description (optional): enter a description for the container in this field.
- Site (required): the container must be placed into a physical site-location. Click the drop-down arrow to select the site from the list that appears. (The site or sites that are assigned to the logged-in user appear in this list.)
- Location (required): click the drop-down arrow to select the container's physical location. The locations in the selected site appear in the drop-down list.
- Container Type (required): select a container type for this container. The container type specifies the container's type and size; see "Manage Container Types Page" for more information.
- Length (optional): enter the container length and select a measurement unit for it.

- Width (optional): enter the container width and select a measurement unit for it.

- Height (optional): enter the container height and select a measurement unit for it.

- Weight (optional): enter the container weight and select a measurement unit for it.

- lb: pound/pounds
- oz: ounce/ounces
- Quarantined Checkbox:
- when marked, the container is quarantined. When a container is quarantined, it is removed from active use and no inventory operations (add, adjust, move, receipt/receive, issue/pick) may be performed on this container.
- when unmarked, the container is not quarantined. This is the default setting. To actively use this container for inventory purposes, it cannot be quarantined.
- You are able to add an asset or assets and/or an item or items to the container from the Add Asset/Item to Container section of the page. This is an optional step. For more detailed information .see "Adding an Asset or an Item to a Container" for more information.
- Asset tab: visible if the role of the logged-in user contains the Assets feature. To add an asset to the container: select an asset from the Asset Number field and click the Add icon . The asset is placed in the grid.
- Item tab: To add an item to the container, select an item from the Item Number field and click the Add icon. The item is placed in the grid.
- Continue to add assets and/or items until you are finished filling the container.
- When an item or asset is added to the container, it is placed in the grid. It may be deleted from the container, by pressing the Delete icon to the right of the item/asset entry. For more detailed information .see "Removing an Asset or Item from a Container" for more information.
- Select the Save icon to save this container and any items/assets in it. The page clears to indicate that the container has been saved. The container is now part of the container list. If an asset or an item is added to a container, it is saved in the container.
- To cancel adding this container and discard any information added about it, select the Cancel icon.
- Once a container is added, it is ready to be used by the system.
